PMI is committed to servicing the educational needs of the manufacturing industry in the western Pennsylvania region. Through PMI's "open door" admission policy, acceptance into training programs is open to anyone who meets the entrance assessment requirements as described below. Transferability of course work is solely at the discretion of the receiving institution. PMI is an equal opportunity training institution and does not discriminate in its admissions policy on the basis of age, sex, genetics, handicap, race, religion, creed, national origin, veteran status, or political affiliation.
Admissions
Acceptance into PMI is based on the completion of the following:
1. A personal admissions interview.
A PMI representative will meet with the prospective student. During the interview, training opportunities, occupational plans and financial obligations will be discussed. A tour of the PMI facility will be given and students will have the opportunity to meet PMI administrators and instructors. The purpose of the admissions interview is to familiarize the prospective student with PMI's programs and personnel.
2. The entrance assessment.
To ensure the applicants have the entry-level skills needed for the program(s), every program applicant is required to complete an entrance assessment battery. Applicants will complete the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam (SLE) and the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST).
3. Proof of high school graduation or the equivalent (i.e. copy of high school diploma or official transcript).
All students are required to provide documentation of high school graduation/GED. PMI will accept a copy of the student’s diploma or an official transcript from the student’s high school. If necessary, PMI will assist students in acquiring transcripts with the completion of PMI’s Request for Transcript form. Any fee charged by the high school for acquisition of transcript(s) will be the responsibility of the applicant.
4. Enrollment Agreement/Contractual Agreement
A student enrollment agreement summarizing the student’s rights and responsibilities must be completed and signed prior to entry into the program. The enrollment agreement is not binding until accepted in writing by the School.
5. Payment Plan
All students who do not pay in full prior to the start of classes must develop a payment plan to be approved by PMI’s Financial Department. The payment plan will detail the student’s financial obligation and will serve as a plan for the repayment of all fees incurred by the student at PMI.
6. Competency Testing (*Not applicable to all students)
Precision Manufacturing Institute offers students with prior training or work experience the opportunity to "test out" of certain classes/courses within their program. This competency testing is given to students who feel that their previous work history or educational/experience has provided them with the skills taught by a specific course at PMI. All requests for competency testing must be processed prior to the student's first day of class.
Competency tests are administered with a time limit and overseen by an employee of PMI. If a student earns a score of 75% or higher on the exam, they will not be required to take the course as part of his or her program.
